Andrea Burgay

Andrea Burgay is a visual artist, publisher, and curator based in Brooklyn, NY, originally from Syracuse, NY. In her work, paper and print media undergo processes of accumulation and deconstruction, with the resulting works bearing the markings of these visceral transformations. Materials are reconstructed and revived, shaped by memory, emotion, and imagination. Her work visually manifests the passage of time, carrying fragments of the past into the present while holding both the weight of loss and the possibility of renewal.

Burgay has exhibited nationally and internationally, including at Unimedia Modern Contemporary Art in Genoa, Italy; Galerie Zurcher in Paris, France; Retroavangarda Gallery in Warsaw, Poland; Sala Municipal de Exposiciones de La Pasión in Valladolid, Spain; and Birmingham University in England. In the United States, her work has been shown at venues including BRIC, BravinLee Programs, and Denise Bibro in New York, as well as Concord Visual Arts Center in Massachusetts, among other galleries and institutions.

She is the recipient of awards and residencies including the Jentel Artist Residency in Wyoming; The Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts in Nebraska; and The Eileen S Kaminsky Family Foundation at MANA Contemporary in New Jersey. Her work is held in public and private collections worldwide, including the Northern New England Museum of Contemporary Art and The Kanyer Art Collection and Historical Archive of Collage. In 2024, she presented the solo exhibition Fictions at the Guldner Gallery of the Kansas City Public Library in Missouri.

Burgay is the founder and director of Cut Me Up Magazine, an ongoing collaborative publishing project. Structured as a visual call-and-response, each issue presents a curated selection of original collage images that become raw material for participating artists who cut, reconfigure, and transform them into new works, fostering an ongoing dialogue around collage and exchange between artists. Works from Cut Me Up have been featured in exhibitions such as Cut Me Up: Transitions at the Vassar College Art Library in 2024 and RE-BOP! Obstructions & Disruptions at the Beverly Arts Center in 2025.

Alongside her creative practice, Burgay is the Studio Manager for artist Fred Wilson and has had a long career in art education, including developing initiatives Studio in a School’s Teach and Create website and the Let’s Create video series produced for WNET.
