Fictions
Collage works made by deconstructing and reassembling discarded and second-hand paperback books, imagining new lives for unwanted objects that once had much to communicate.
In my ongoing Fictions series, I give new life to discarded books, transforming them into sculptural collages that reimagine their forgotten narratives. Sourced from thrift stores and used-book sales, these paperbacks undergo a process of metamorphosis within my studio.
I choose books from genres such as science fiction, action/adventure, and romance, where the content tends to be quickly consumed and swiftly outdated. Each book is chosen for a color or texture that resonates, a title or phrase that attracts the eye. In my studio, the books are layered with collage elements, then dismantled and reassembled until they take on new forms, evoking both decay and renewal.
I imagine that these objects have taken on lives of their own, neglected and ignored stories pouring out of them and mixing. Some books explode with color—others are eaten away, ravaged by time. Each piece captures a balance between deterioration and regeneration. As reimagined documents of the past, the Fictions invite viewers to explore realms of remembrance, nostalgia, and evolution.
