EDGARD BARBOSA: GRIDS, SOURCES, AND VISIONS

Edgard Barbosa’s work transitions seamlessly between the physical and digital realms, with the term “Korigami” created to describe his process of folding paper to create juxtaposed fragments of luxury goods and models from high-end advertisements. Edgard shared his works and process and work from his studio in Washington Heights, NYC.

REFLECTIONS ON NATURE —TODD BARTEL’S ARTIST RESIDENCY AT WEIR FARM

Todd Bartel’s work stems from his exploration of historical perceptions of nature and its subsequent reflection in landscape art, made manifest through a painstaking physical crafting process.
At his studio at Weir Farm, he shared new works and his quest to find the pivotal moment when humans were excluded from the definition of “nature” in the dictionary.

CHINA MARKS: DRAWING WITH MACHINES

Under China’s hand, scraps of patterned fabric come to life, utterly transformed into characters and narratives that reflect the world in all its glory, horror, and absurdity. The industrial sewing machine, China’s tool of choice, creates the stitched line which unifies fragments of found fabric into singular works of humor and poetry.
We visited China’s Long Island City, NYC studio to talk with her about her life, work, influences, and process.

CLIVE KNIGHTS, AN ARCHITECTURE OF FRAGMENTS

A wide array of influences—literature, philosophy, and especially his professional background as an architect—merge to shape the collage works and monotype prints of Clive Knights. In Knights’ work, fragments of colors, textures and images become tactile gestures, creating spaces and narrative storylines that reflect the complexity of the human experience.
