Wish You Were Here
Wish You Were Here
In my Wish You Were Here series (2018-present), I reimagine the scenes and sentiments of vintage postcards through the lens of imagination. In these works, dreams of travel to fantasy destinations, and nostalgia for eras past, become subsumed by the fantastical.
Fragments of paper meld together like brushstrokes, often complimented by marks and lines of embroidery, to completely obliterate or transform each scene, leaving the backdrop as a connection to the original image. Bits of text and symbols of well wishes may be preserved, left to peek through the layers of collage. The transformation of these images changes our perception of the times and places depicted by adding something mysterious and unknown.
